A Back-and-Forth Playoff Thriller in Katy
Katy ISD’s Legacy Stadium set the stage for one of the wildest, most emotionally draining playoff games of the 2025 Texas UIL postseason. From the opening whistle, Iowa Colony and Brenham went back and forth all night, trading explosive plays, momentum swings, and game-changing moments that had everyone in the building locked in.
Early Scoring Sets the Tone
Iowa Colony struck first with a dart from junior quarterback Carson White to senior wide receiver Jayden Warren for the touchdown, and the extra point was good. Brenham quickly responded with a long touchdown pass from senior QB Xyran Upshaw to sophomore WR CJ Glover, though they missed a two-point conversion. Iowa Colony stayed aggressive, with Carson White hitting Jayden Warren again on a deep pass, followed by senior RB Aaron Tenner taking it in for a rushing score. By the second quarter, the score was 14-6 with just under ten minutes left, setting the stage for an intense playoff battle at Katy ISD’s Legacy Stadium.

Back-and-Forth Action Through the First Half
Brenham didn’t back down, connecting on a 65-yard touchdown pass to CJ Glover, narrowing the gap to 14-13. Iowa Colony added a field goal by senior kicker Andres Vasquez to extend the lead to 17-13 before halftime. Both teams showed a balance of skill and determination, making it clear that this semifinal matchup would go down to the wire.
Second Half: Trading Scores and Momentum Shifts
After the break, Brenham came out strong, briefly taking a 20-17 lead, only for Iowa Colony to respond with a drive that put them back on top 24-20. Brenham countered with a 27-24 lead midway through the third quarter. Iowa Colony attempted a 36-yard field goal by Andres Vasquez that fell short, keeping Brenham ahead 27-24. Later, a 28-yard field goal from Brenham made it 30-24 in the fourth quarter. Iowa Colony’s offense leaned on a hard-nosed, physical ground game led by Aaron Tenner and Carson White, eating clock and wearing down the Brenham defense. Eventually, Aaron Tenner and Carson White both found the end zone, giving Iowa Colony a 31-30 lead. Senior cornerback Micario Brackens sealed the victory with a game-saving interception, and the Pioneers ran out the clock in victory formation to move on to the next round.
