Summer Creek Strikes First!

Friday night’s matchup between Alvin ISD’s Manvel Mavericks and Humble ISD’s Summer Creek Bulldogs was everything you could want in a playoff showdown — high stakes, incredible athletes, and plenty of storylines. From the first snap, Summer Creek made it clear they came to play. Junior quarterback Noah Spinks wasted no time, connecting on a long TD pass to junior wide receiver Benny Easter Jr. Easter blew past Manvel’s defender, literally waiting for the ball to catch up to him before taking it in for six. That was just the first of Easter’s six receptions on the night, totaling a staggering 252 yards. If you haven’t seen this young sir play, you need to — he’s an absolute man amongst younger men out there.

Lightning Delay Doesn’t Slow the Action

Just as that first play finished, a lightning strike caused an hour-and-a-half delay. When the teams finally returned to the field around 8:30, Summer Creek kicked off again, and Manvel answered with a balanced drive to tie it 7-7. But Summer Creek’s offense was relentless. Two plays later, they scored again. And then again. By the end of the first quarter, the score was already 23-7, thanks to a safety after a Manvel fumble.

Summer Creek Dominates from Start to Finish

From that point on, Summer Creek controlled the game, showing a quiet confidence and precision that was mesmerizing. Spinks’ ability to run or pass, often in the same play, kept Manvel guessing all night. He finished with 23 passing attempts for 457 yards, while the Bulldogs totaled 492 yards through the air and 121 yards rushing.

Manvel fought hard, with senior QB Cam Renfro throwing 18 passes for 66 yards and junior Dante Mays adding 11 attempts for 56 yards, giving them 122 passing yards total. But the Mavericks’ spark came on the ground, where Xaiden Brown, Dante Mays, and Hayes led the charge, totaling 368 rushing yards. Senior Jayden Kendrick had six catches for 15 yards, Dante Mays added four for 42 yards, and sophomore Saint Junius contributed 36 yards receiving. Despite the effort, Summer Creek’s speed, strategy, and execution proved too much for the Mavericks.

Lessons for Manvel and Takeaways for Summer Creek

Summer Creek is the real deal. Their fans and students brought energy, but the team on the field played solid, fundamental football — no gimmicks, no tricks, just pure execution. They dismantled a talented Manvel team that showed growth and improvement all season. For Manvel, the first year at 6A has been a success — making the playoffs in one of the most competitive districts in Texas speaks volumes about the program’s progress.

As the night wrapped up, it was clear that Summer Creek is built to go deep this playoff season. Their quarterback, Benny Easter, and the supporting cast of playmakers have a team that can do it all. Manvel, take pride in your season — you improved week after week, showed grit, and proved that you belong at this level. Offseason grind starts now.

Summer Creek, keep doing what you’re doing in Humble, Texas. If this is any indication, bigger things are coming.
