Alvin ISD’s beautiful Freedom Field provided the setting Friday night, with temperatures around 65 degrees at kickoff and the Battle of 288 bringing neighborhood pride to the stadium. Shadow Creek and Manvel arrived with matching 5–1 records, familiar faces across the field, and bragging rights on the line. It was a rivalry matchup worthy of the venue.

By the final whistle, Shadow Creek had delivered a decisive answer. The Sharks built a three-touchdown lead, absorbed Manvel’s late first-half response, and scored 21 unanswered points after the break to finish a 42–6 victory.

Mathis supplied the early scoring punch with three rushing touchdowns. Pace added 107 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries. Together, they accounted for 200 of Shadow Creek’s 237 rushing yards, helping the Sharks control the game while their defense held Manvel to 105 total yards.

Mathis Sets the Tone

Shadow Creek opened the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run by Mathis midway through the first quarter. The extra point put the Sharks ahead 7–0, giving their balanced attack an early reward.

The rivalry’s intensity surfaced before the quarter ended. A punch resulted in a player ejection and a first down for Shadow Creek. The Sharks carried their 7–0 advantage into the second quarter with the ball at Manvel’s 22-yard line.

Mathis finished another scoring opportunity with 10:46 remaining in the half, extending the lead to 14–0 after the extra point. Just 11 seconds later, Kevin Jackson intercepted a Manvel pass, handing the ball back to a Shadow Creek offense that was already finding its rhythm.

The Sharks capitalized. With 9:03 left before halftime, Mathis scored his third rushing touchdown of the night. Another successful extra point made it 21–0.

Mathis needed only 11 carries to produce his 93 yards, averaging 8.5 yards per attempt. His longest run covered 37 yards. Shadow Creek’s work up front helped establish a rushing attack that averaged 7.0 yards per carry for the game.

Manvel Finds the End Zone Before the Break

Manvel found a response in the closing minute of the second quarter. Quarterback B. Tuiasosopo connected with Carter St. Junious for a 15-yard touchdown with 40 seconds remaining, cutting the deficit to 21–6.

Shadow Creek blocked the extra point, keeping the margin at 15. Manvel then attempted an onside kick, but an illegal-procedure penalty spoiled the opportunity. The Sharks ran out the remaining time and took a 21–6 lead into halftime.

A Turnover, a Quick Strike, and a One-Handed Finish

Any momentum Manvel hoped to carry out of halftime disappeared quickly. Shadow Creek recovered a Mavericks fumble early in the third quarter, and Pace turned the next play into a rushing touchdown. With 11:12 still on the clock, the Sharks led 28–6.

Pace’s 107-yard performance gave Shadow Creek another productive option alongside Mathis. He averaged 9.7 yards per carry, with a long run of 32 yards, and added a four-yard reception.

Later in the quarter, another Shadow Creek interception positioned the Sharks at Manvel’s 33-yard line with 4:24 remaining. The offense again turned the opportunity into points.

With 2:50 left in the third, quarterback T. Coleman found Jaylen Addai, who made an acrobatic one-handed touchdown catch. The extra point pushed the lead to 35–6, the score that held through the end of the quarter.

Coleman added his second touchdown pass with 9:36 remaining in the fourth quarter, connecting with B. LaFell Jr. The successful extra point completed the scoring at 42–6.

Coleman finished 15-of-25 for 132 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Addai caught six passes for 61 yards and a score, while LaFell caught two for 36 yards and a touchdown. LaFell also contributed 26 rushing yards on two carries.

Shadow Creek’s Defense Controls the Night

The Sharks’ offensive production came with consistent support from their defense. Manvel finished with 56 rushing yards on 30 attempts and 49 passing yards, managing eight first downs to Shadow Creek’s 24.

The Mavericks’ passing line included three interceptions, and they also lost a fumble. Shadow Creek held the ball for 29:40, compared with Manvel’s 18:20, and kept the Mavericks scoreless throughout the second half.

J. Edwards and J. Oliver each recorded six total tackles for Shadow Creek. Jackson, Cameron Hebert, J. Thomas, and G. Thompson each added five. C. Watson recorded the Sharks’ sack.

Xayden Brown led Manvel’s rushing attack with 53 yards on 16 carries and added a 17-yard reception. His 70 yards from scrimmage accounted for two-thirds of the Mavericks’ total offense, but Shadow Creek prevented Manvel from building sustained scoring momentum.

Manvel’s Defensive Standouts Keep Working

Manvel had individual defensive performances worth recognizing despite the result. S. Weary finished with 12 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and three quarterback hurries. C. Ejiasi also recorded 12 tackles, including eight solo stops.

J. Smith added eight tackles and M. Armstrong contributed seven. Amir Bowers was credited with half a sack and a quarterback hurry.
