And it begins!
The high school football season opened with a statement at Alvin ISD’s Freedom Field Stadium in Iowa Colony, TX, where Galveston Ball High School delivered a crushing 54-26 victory over Manvel High School. Fueled by the explosive play of Jonah “Island Boi” Williams, who racked up five touchdowns, Galveston Ball sent a clear message: they’re not here to play around.
From the first whistle, Galveston Ball took control, returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown and setting the tone for a night that would quickly turn into a nightmare for Manvel. Despite a quick response from the Mavericks with a kickoff return touchdown of their own, the momentum was short-lived. The Mavericks were plagued by disastrous special teams play, especially on punts, which quickly unraveled any chance they had to stay competitive.
Jonah Williams was nothing short of unstoppable, torching Manvel’s defense with five touchdowns in every conceivable way. He was a one-man wrecking crew, cutting through the Mavericks like they weren’t even there. Whether he was blazing down the field on returns, tearing up the secondary with receptions, or bulldozing through defenders on the ground, Williams left no doubt who the star of the night was.

For Manvel, it was a brutal wake-up call. Their early excitement fizzled out fast as special teams blunders repeatedly gave Galveston Ball prime field position. The Mavericks’ two-quarterback system sputtered behind an offensive line that couldn’t protect, and a soft defensive front that was manhandled all night. Their inability to establish any sort of rhythm on offense or defense left them scrambling, and by the time the final whistle blew, the scoreboard told the harsh truth of their defeat.
